PETER
LA JOY
Youth Pastor
Peter La Joy became the Youth Pastor at Calvary
Tucson in September 2000. He was born in
Chicago, Illinois and spent his early childhood
in an area called Little Italy. After graduating
high school, he moved to Northridge, California,
and attended California State University where
he graduated with a degree in Health Science and
Physical Therapy in 1983.
He met his wife, Beth, in California and was
married in 1983. Peter and Beth have 4 children:
Faith, Jocelyn, Jake and Bethany.
Peter was raised in an Italian Catholic family
but during his college years became involved
with the New Age teachings of Religious Science.
Through a series of events, he decided to read
the Bible to “check it out.” After a year and a
half of reading and studying, Beth took Peter to
Calvary Chapel Thousand Oaks, California. When
confronted with the overwhelming evidence of the
Bible as to the Person and Work of Jesus Christ,
Peter knew he had to make a decision about
Jesus. In February 1984, Peter dedicated his
life to Jesus Christ.
Peter has worked as a Physical Therapist in
outpatient orthopedics since 1983 until 2001. In
1990 Peter became involved with Worship Ministry
at Calvary Chapel Simi Valley, California and
was Worship leader there for 3 years. Pete has a
heart for evangelism and came to Tucson to help
Scott Richards in the early days of Calvary
Christian Fellowship.
In 1998, Peter began attending Calvary Tucson.
In 1999, Peter became involved with
Youth
Ministry and Youth Missions. This past year
has been one of great blessing and challenges,
as Peter became our Youth Pastor. He believes
the foundation of a great youth ministry to be
found in Acts Chapter 2: THE WORD, PRAYER,
FELLOWSHIP, and EVANGELISM.
