TROY
STOKOE
Assistant Pastor
Troy
was born and raised in Tucson in a family
that did not know, acknowledge or worship God.
He began searching for fulfillment in life
through athletic achievements, drugs, alcohol
and relationships.
In June of 1986, he transferred with Price Club
to the San Francisco Bay Area. Still searching
and seeking he met Lisa who would later become
his best friend and wife. Believing that Lisa
was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his
life with, but having come from a divorced family
background, Troy feared marriage. Not having a
good role model to follow or having any biblical
direction, marriage seemed destine to heartache
and failure.
The Lord began to impress upon their hearts to
seek Him. This came by way of them looking to go
to “church” for answers. They went one Sunday to
a large Bible teaching church. Troy recalls it
was then that the Holy Spirit clearly spoke to
him. However, due to fear, he did not commit his
life to Jesus Christ that day. After service,
Troy & Lisa found themselves in the main foyer
of this very large church. Young and scared, no
one came up and greeted them. They left, never
to return again. Troy thought another church
might be the answer. They went the next Sunday
to another very large church in Castro Valley,
once again to be ignored after service. He
remembers walking down the sidewalk saying in
his heart, “if this is what you’re about God, I
want nothing to do with You.”
During the next week, Lisa’s brother, Mark,
invited them to Calvary Chapel in Concord,
California. They went and were greeted by the
whole body of believers. It was that Sunday in
1986 that Troy remembers the Pastor giving an
alter call with heads bowed and eyes closed that
he committed his life to Jesus Christ. After
service, the Pastor invited those who raised
their hand to come forward and it turns out that
Lisa also raised hers. They began their walk
with God together. Troy married Lisa on May
14th, 1988. They stayed in California a total of
four years and were led to transfer to Denver
Colorado with Price Club. They spent another
four years in Colorado believing they would
never leave.
It was a Sunday teaching on Job chapter one and
a phone call later that day which once again
changed the direction of his life. Troy’s
brother died in Tucson and that is what the Lord
used to draw him out of Colorado and move back
to Tucson. He quit working at Price Club and
went into business with his dad working in real
estate & property management.
It was at his brother’s memorial service when
Troy recognized God’s calling upon his life. He
began serving at Calvary Tucson in lay ministry almost
immediately upon their arrival in Tucson. Troy was invited to join the staff of
Calvary Tucson October 15th, 1996, where he
currently serves as an Assistant Pastor
overseeing various ministries.
Troy & Lisa currently have 3 sons and enjoy
being a part of the fellowship of Calvary
Tucson.
